SIGNALLING the continued expansion of Ningbo - one of the world’s busiest port cities and one of China’s most important stops on its 21st-century maritime silk road initiative - Marriott International has announced that the Ritz-Carlton will occupy the upper floors of the city’s tallest building.

Currently under construction, the 409-metre supertall Ningbo Central Plaza is designed by internationally renowned architectural firm Skidmore, Owings and Merrill (SOM) in collaboration with the Arcplus Institute of Shanghai Architectural Design and Research, Greentown Architecture Design and Shanghai Construction Design and Research Institute.

The curvaceous tower is set to leave an undeniable mark on the city’s skyline. The next tallest building in Ningbo rises to just above 250-metres.

The Ritz-Carlton will occupy floors 62 to 80 with interiors designed by the award-winning G.A. Design.

There will be 257 rooms, suites and a Club Lounge, while the hotel will offer unrivalled panoramic views of the city skyline and coast.

Three distinctive restaurants will cater to an array of tastes - including an all-day dining restaurant, a Chinese restaurant and a specialty restaurant.

While a destination bar will provide a new nightlife hotspot for guests and locals.

There will also be 1,700 square meters of planned banquet space to accommodate a wide range of events, such as business meetings, conferences, and various social events.

“We are pleased to announce the signing of The Ritz-Carlton, Ningbo. This hotel will redefine the luxury hotel experience in the vibrant coastal city through The Ritz-Carlton brand’s refined style and legendary services,” said Senior Vice President of Development for Marriott International Gavin Yu in a press release.

“As a key urban hub along the southern tip of the Yangtze River Delta, Ningbo has demonstrated strong economic development and boasts solid potential for high-end business and leisure hotels.”

“The Ningbo Central Plaza aspires to be a high-end landmark for the city, combining hotel, offices, commercial and residential space with apartments and other offerings,” added President of Shanshan Group Bao Xiaohua.
