Called "BioCity Discovery", the building is notable for combining sophisticated laboratory facilities - including nuclear magnetic resonance and mass spectrometers, rotary evaporators and centrifuges no less - with a co-working environment suited for life sciences and medical start-ups.

The £27 million project began in April 2015 and took less than two years to complete.

The building offers up to 700 workplaces, providing 50,000 square feet of flexible offices, meeting facilities and lab space, which occupants can rent by the hour.

Supporting the local economy, Willmott Dixon spent 83% of the project's budget and hired 76% of labour within 20 miles of the site. The project was completed on time and within budget.

BioCity Discovery is seen as a prestigious new facility that will help retain young talent across the greater Nottingham area.

It is estimated that some 55,000 people in the region work in the healthcare and life sciences sectors.
