Edinburgh Airport Extension Underway

CONSTRUCTION on the extension of Edinburgh Airport’s main terminal is well underway with works expected to complete at the end of 2018, according to the contractor BAM Construct UK.

Announced last summer, the extension is necessary to accommodate a projected rise in passenger numbers: from 12 million a year in 2016 to 16.5 million in 2021.

As can be seen in the video above, the extension’s quick build time is ensured by a structural steel frame which allows for fast, efficient and accurate assembly.

The extension adds three storeys of retail, baggage handling and border control facilities, as well as six additional boarding gates, increasing the total number to 32.

The project’s total cost is £80 million, while a further £130 million will be spent upgrading existing airport facilities over the next five years.

Edinburgh is Scotland’s largest airport and currently the fastest growing airport in the UK.
