Louise Kelly, Architectural Technologist and BIM Project Manager, at Fulcro shares what she loves about construction as part of our series highlighting everything that’s great about our industry!

3 – THE PEOPLE

At number three for Louise is the people that she works with in the industry.

She loves the experience of individuals with different backgrounds and expertise coming together to create a physical built asset. “People then go on to use [that asset] in their everyday lives” she explains, “be it a road, a railway or a building”.

2 – TECHNOLOGY

The adoption of new technologies and the shift towards digital construction is another reason to love the industry in Louise’s opinion.

She explains: “Technology impacts on every part of the construction process: whether it’s excavators on site that are programmed to create site gradients, people in a design office who use technology to create drawings and models of their projects or contractors on site who use it to programme their works”.

Louise is an active member of both the Irish and UK building information modelling (BIM) communities and has been working to promote its adoption.

1 – THE VARIETY

Asked for her favourite thing about construction, Louise quickly pointed to the wide variety of job roles and project types that are available. The industry offers an incredible amount of choice and a range of challenges to ensure you’re never bored. Even if you are in the same role, you may have completely different experiences from project to project, working with different people in new contexts.

Louise highlights the wide variety of project types that construction offers.

Louise explained: “You could work on residential extensions, factories or on an oil rig. It’s the different roles and different types of projects that keeps things interesting”.
